Botox® What is Botox? Botox is a purified protein that is FDA approved for the treatment of wrinkles. It is injected into the muscle underneath the wrinkle. The muscle becomes relaxed and you will not continue to make the facial expression(s) that cause the face to wrinkle. Is Botox Safe? Yes. Botox is FDA approved and is completely safe. There was some press about some people that were injured a few years ago, but they were not using Botox®. They were using an unpurified substance that was likely obtained from an illegal source. Will I Look frozen? No. Although Botox can be used heavily enough to paralyze the muscle, we do not practice that style of treatment, rather we prefer a normal look to be achieved. Patients should be able to use their facial muscles, but not to the extreme that lines persist even when they are relaxed. Does it hurt to get injected with Botox? Our patients comment that they either feel nothing or a slight a pinching sensation. Everybody's pain threshold is different, so sensitivity will vary. How long does the effects of Botox last? You will see results within 3-14 days and the results can last three to six months.
